Insurance company doctor would let my client die!/¡El médico de la compañía de seguros dejara morir a mi cliente! 

On Wednesday one of my clients went to a medical examination (IME) with an insurance company/defendant’s doctor.  My client has a spine injury.  While the doctor was checking her reflexes, he noted some “strange findings.”  He finished the exam and let her go home.  She called the office to tell us about the exam.  She mentioned that he said some things were strange.  I asked her what he meant.  She said, “he couldn’t detect a pulse in my foot and said my skin was a bit gray.”  I immediately reacted by asking her if her foot was cold and if she had capillary refill when she pinched her toenail (did they go from white back to a reddish pink).   Her toenails did not redden.  To me (a non-doctor) she was showing obvious signs of a blood clot.  I asked if the IME doctor told her to go to the ER or to her own doctor.  He did not.  I told her to immediately go to the ER and to call me that night.  She went…they found a large clot in her leg and determined it caused a mini-stroke too.  She had emergency surgery and is still in the hospital.  She called us yesterday and said we saved her life by insisting she go to the ER.

There is a reality we have learned in 30 years of fighting insurance companies:  Injured people are just numbers to them and their doctors.  The truth, or right and wrong means nothing to the company doctor.  Never forget that!
