Americans are 13 times more likely to die of medical negligence than murder
According to the CDC and FBI statistics, on average, 52 Americans are murdered each day. Compare that to an average of 685 deaths per day from medical errors/negligence. (05/03/2016 (hopkinsmedicine.org)). In fact, the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine concluded that medical negligence is the third leading cause of death in America. These are preventable deaths. Hate them or not, it’s a fact that lawsuits make us safer. They force the medical industry (and, it is a business) to continually improve patient care. It forces doctors and hospitals to slow down, take all the necessary steps and prevent needless harm. If lawyers do our jobs and prosecute legitimate cases with serious injuries then the end result will be better care, safer people…and fewer lawsuits.
