Spring weather brings out bikers / El clima de primavera saca a los ciclistas

Daylight savings time is upon us again.   The first day of spring (vernal equinox) is March 20 for 2019.  From that day until mid-July will have increasing amounts of daylight each day.   Most important, this long, cold, snowy, miserable winter is nearly behind us and some warm weather will be here soon!

If you are like me, this weather means you will be getting your bikes out.  I am an avid bicycle racer and motorcyclist. I love anything on 2 wheels!

If you aren’t a rider, please begin to be more aware of your 2-wheeled friends on the road with you.  If you are a rider, please be careful.

Experienced riders know that all the safety precautions won’t protect you from a dangerous or distracted driver.  This has become especially true in the age of cell phones.  Distracted drivers are probably the biggest hazard facing motorcycle and bicycle riders.  I know I’ve had several close encounters with drivers who have their faces buried in their cell phones.  It’s terrifying.

I’ve experienced car-cyclist collisions from the perspective of a cyclist and as an attorney. I know exactly how scary it is to be hit by a car because I’ve experienced it.  I’ve also represented cyclists who have been hit.  Insurance companies do everything they can to blame the cyclist when a cyclist gets hit. They also do everything they can to avoid paying medical bills and for replacing bikes destroyed in a crash.   I know the ropes when it comes to representing riders.

My fervent hope is that you have a fun and safe riding season.  However, if you are a rider who is hit and injured by a motorist, I want to hear from you. I want you to let me help you.
