Two most frequently asked questions about medical insurance / Las dos preguntas más frecuentes sobre el seguro médico
I have medical insurance, should I have my providers bill the health insurance?
Yes. Once you have obtained an attorney, most auto insurance companies will not pay any further bills. Your bills will be taken into consideration at the time of settlement. This causes issues for many people as the bills sit unpaid until your case is resolved (whether it be by compromise, mediation, arbitration and/or trial). Once these bills have sat unpaid for an extended amount of time, many providers will send them to a collection agency, ultimately affecting your credit.
Why does the health insurance company get paid out of my settlement?
When the health insurance company has paid bills related to an incident/accident (that was the result of someone else’s negligence) they are entitled to receive their money back from any settlement proceeds you may receive. Most of the time, when “at fault” parties make settlement offers they are inclusive of your medical bills. You need to make sure that you take this into consideration when agreeing to settle your case.
