WORK COMP CASE SETTLES FOR $100K AND OPEN MEDICAL FOR LIFE / CASO DE TRABAJO COMP RESOLVIDO PARA $100K Y MEDICAL ABIERTO PARA LA VIDA
This week, Keith Short and Associates settled an Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act Case for $102,000.00, plus payment of all bills to date and future medical for life. We had the case set for trial next month (assuming the world returns to normal). The insurance company offered us $100,000.00 for the injury, and another $400,000.00 for future medical expense.
We didn’t think that was in our client’s best interest (even though we could have taken a nearly $70,000 fee on the medical portion). Instead, we told our client that the insurance company had to leave the medical open forever, or we needed to try the case so the arbitrator could leave the medical open. The insurance company flinched…they paid us everything we wanted. Sure, our fee went from $90K down to $20K but that doesn’t matter.
What matters is that this very young man, that needs a multi-level fusion, will have his spinal treatment covered for life – even if it ends up costing millions. He has a new job he can physically handle with medical coverage. It’s about the best possible outcome we could have imagined. Not all cases get the same result, but they all get this kind of effort.
