Today we had our greatest success as a firm! / ¡ Hoy hemos tenido nuestro mayor éxito como empresa!

I love this firm. I have worked here for four years. We have won millions for our clients (thrilling!) and we have lost trials too (heartbreaking!). But at the core of all of it has always been one simple idea: We must care for people. Not just care about them, but actually take care of them! At no time has this idea ever been more true than today. Coming back from lunch, Shana and I saw a very frail looking, very old gentleman slowly walking down the street. He was lost and confused. We spoke to him. He was very obviously well taken care of but he was just so small, so weak and so very confused. He didn’t know where he was going or how to get home. We asked him to come back to the office with us. We called our boss. He came downstairs. His face immediately went from tired (and frustrated) to genuine concern when he saw the older man. He asked if he could look at the gentleman’s wallet. He was able to get an address in another state. The police were not helpful. Eventually, we found a name of a woman. We did a Facebook search and there were 3 people in America with that name. We looked at each page. One of the pages was a lady from California. We looked through her contacts and noticed a relative with the same last name as our gentleman. We looked at that lady’s page and, hooray!, she lived in Alton. We looked for her business, called her and then spoke to another man. He knew our gentleman and said he would come to get him. The wonderful, old gentleman is safe and back at home. Every single person in this firm either sat and talked with the gentleman (one bought him lunch) or looked for clues to find his family.

Shana and I knew that it was the right thing to stop and check on this man. We knew it was the right thing to bring him back to the firm even if it meant that all business came to a halt. We knew that everyone would immediately jump in to care for him, not just care about him. We knew these things because that’s who we are and who we strive to be. We don’t always succeed but today we did. I couldn’t be more proud of the people with whom I work…and the place where I work.
